THIRD WORLD NETWORK BIOSAFETY INFORMATION SERVICE

Dear Friends and Colleagues

Synthetic Biology, Genome Editing and Gene Drives

The14th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 14) and the ninth meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (COP-MOP 9) will be held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt from 17-29 November 2018.

One of the key topics that will be addressed by both treaties is that of synthetic biology, including the issues of genome editing and engineered gene drives. We are pleased to provide a briefing paper on these issues, jointly produced by the Third World Network, ETC Group and African Centre for Biodiversity.

The paper is also attached here.

With best wishes,
