BAN TERMINATOR CAMPAIGN
(http://www.banterminator.org)

Terminator technology refers to plants that have been genetically modified to render sterile seeds at harvest (also called Genetic Use Restriction Technology or GURTs). Terminator was developed by the multinational seed/agrochemical industry and the United States government to prevent farmers from saving and re-planting harvested seed. Terminator has not yet been commercialized or field-tested but tests are currently being conducted in greenhouses in the United States.

Please join the international campaign to BAN TERMINATOR. Your action is needed now. Terminator technology is back. Governments and corporations are pushing hard to commercialize this technology. Currently there is an international de facto moratorium on Terminator at the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity. But the moratorium is now in jeopardy.

The potential impacts of Terminator for Indigenous peoples and traditional knowledge, peasants and small-scale farmers, and biosafety, require a ban to ensure that this dangerous technology is never field tested or commercialized. Governments have the power to ban Terminator – The international community can ban Terminator. Your support is needed to make this happen.

Your government will send a delegation to the 8th Conference of the Parties (COP8) to the Convention on Biological Diversity March 20-31 2006 in Curitiba, ParanĂ¡, Brazil, where the future of Terminator will be discussed. You can help ensure that this meeting strengthens the moratorium on Terminator and takes steps to ban it once and for all
