This is a report on the health situation of Bt cotton growing farmers in Madhya Pradesh, India following complaints of allergenic reactions among farmers growing GM cotton. […] This synopsis reviews published in vivo studies on possible health consequences of genetically modified food and feed where the ingredients in question have consisted of genetically modified plant materials. […] Research found that peas modified to resist insects had caused inflammation in the lung tissues of mice which led the CSIRO to abandon a decade-long GM crop project. […] Arpad Pusztai stressed the need for a science-based protocol that assesses the safety or otherwise of GM foods. In particular, he described science that should have been done before GM crops and foods were commercialised. […] Extending from Arpad Pusztai’s talk, Stanley Ewen discusses the effect of GM potatoes on rat guts. While he believes that GM potatoes are fully carcinogenic, he cautioned that what we eat might have indirect effects.
